Safe Harbour

Main title sequence

Project —

Working closely with series director Glendyn Ivin, I helped realise a haunting and symbolic vision for the opening title sequence of SBS’s four-part psychological drama Safe Harbour. The concept follows a frayed rope drifting underwater, gradually revealing a boat caught in a violent storm. The rope, critically, has been cut, symbolising the show’s central themes of moral ambiguity, consequence and fractured responsibility.

The camera flows seamlessly from the ocean depths to the surface, before diving back into the rope. As it travels inward, the rope becomes a looping, infinite tunnel — a visual metaphor for the psychological and emotional entanglement within the narrative.

I was responsible for all 3D design, animation, texturing and compositing. Every detail was designed to reinforce mood and symbolism, from the subtle motion of the rope to the storm-lit atmosphere above. Warp Records artist Clark composed a bespoke track to sync with the animation, adding a hypnotic sonic texture to the sequence.

The result is an immersive and emotionally resonant opener that sets the tone for the story that follows.
